"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience."
- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
In 1999 I received my Masters in Social Work from Hunter College (NYC), one of the top 20 Social Work Schools in the nation, and earned my California license in clinical social work in 2008 (license # LCS24764).
My social work career began with serving seniors and adults with disabilities, mostly at in-home settings in a healthcare context.
About a decade into my career I found myself becoming interested in Chinese Medicine and energy work. I studied acupressure, Chi Gong, meditation, Rosen Method, and earned a Certified Massage Therapy credential in 2012 (CMT # 33131).
I have held full-time positions at the following: VAMC (Veterans Affairs Medical Center), The Institute On Aging, St. Mary's Adult Day Health Care, Sutter Health Hospice, and Brown & Toland Medical Group. I also had the joy to work part-time at the San Francisco Free Clinic where I was given the opportunity to create a class called "Gentle Movement for Emotional Health." Currently, I work per-diem at two amazing companies: EvoLibri which coaches young adults who are on the Autism Spectrum; and Rehab Without Walls which provides short-term rehabilitation to those with brain or spinal cord injuries.
Delving into bodywork has given me an appreciation for the importance of our mind-body connection. I love incorporating this holistic knowing into my counseling practice. My social work background has trained me to instinctually see clients in context of their environments, and therefore consider all of the inner and outer factors contributing to a presenting concern and address it accordingly. I also tend to be a supportive person who naturally recognizes the strengths within my clients. I enjoy listening and validating and then encouraging my clients to set effective, energizing goals and to mobilize their resources.
For our sessions, you will always be offered an opportunity to begin with a moment to become centered and to set an intention. If appropriate, I will also offer you some personalized self-acupressure and meditation routines.
In my sessions, I hope to create a safe place where you can show up exactly as you are--without judgement or guilt--and be able to explore where and how to make a shift. Your body, mind, and spirit are considered in assessing and addressing your presenting concerns.
As a commitment to myself and my clients, I continue to do my own personal growth work. I have a holistic energy coach I see regularly, and have a daily mediation practice. I'm also supported by an acupuncturist, as well as regularly attending yoga classes. I continue studying various topics related to counseling and coaching.
I look forward to working with you!
